Definition:  A unit consisting of a pneumatic filter and an airline lubricator. It prevents dirt and moisture from entering air-operated equipment and at the same time provides proper lubrication to the equipment. A VALVE, REGULATING, FLUID PRESSURE and/or pressure gauges may be included with the assembly. Description:  1. A device designed to remove solid particles from fluids ranging in density from heavy liquids to gases. The removal of particles is accomplished by an element constructed so the fluid can flow through it while the solid particles are retained. The degree of removal of particles must be nominally rated at less than 50 microns or absolutely rated at less than 75 microns. See also STRAINER (as modified). 2. A transparent item designed to be used with a light for the sole purpose of altering the color of the light transmitted and/or polarizing the light rays. 3. (Electrical) An item for insertion in an electrical or electronic circuit which introduces a predictable amount of opposition to the passage of currents of specified frequency(ies) as they pass through the device.
