It is specifically designed to concentrate magnetic flux generated by the flow of an electric current, to induce in itself an electromotive force, and to add or subtract inductive reactance in a circuit. Excludes: Winding (1). In selecting appropriate modifier for a coil contained in a complex or assembled item, use name of immediate next higher component of which the coil is a direct part. For example, a coil for a relay which is part of a STARTER, MOTOR or a CONTROLLER (as modified) would properly be assigned the item name COIL, RELAY.
