Description:  1. (Instrument) An item inclosing the working elements of a meter, gage, indicator, and the like. The inclosed item is not normally operable when removed from the housing. The housing does not provide conforming dimensions, but does follow a geometric relationship to the over-all configuration of the item it incloses.
