Definition:  A manual or power driven bench mounted device, designed to set teeth on hand saw, circular saw, and/or band saw blades. In operation the saw blade is fed automatically or by hand through a plunger striking against a saw tooth. The saw tooth is held over a mating anvil for setting the position of saw teeth to form a kerf wider than the thickness of the saw blade. See also SAW SET, HAND.

Description:  1. (Hand) A manually operated hand tool for cutting wood, metal, plastics, bone, and the like, by means of a flat or round blade. The blade has a series of sharp cutting teeth or a continuous helical tooth which removes successive portions of material when the blade is reciprocated. It must include a handle and/or frame, or the like for holding and operation of the saw blade. 2. (Portable Power) A hand-held and guided power driven tool used for cutting wood, metal, plastics, and the like, by means of a reciprocating or revolving blade. 3. (Nonportable Machine) A power driven machine used for cutting by means of a reciprocating or revolving blade. The blade usually has a series of sharp cutting teeth or a continuous helical tooth which removes successive portions of the material. It is normally secured to a floor, bench, stanchion, and the like, or it may be held firmly in position by its weight.
